Indications and Dosage
Topical/Cutaneous
Musculoskeletal pain
Adult: As 10% w/w cream: Apply onto the affected area 2 or 3 times daily. Use sparingly.
Child: ≥6 years Same as adult dose.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to diethylamine salicylate, aspirin, or other NSAIDs (including oral hypersensitivity) particularly when associated with history of asthma. Application on broken, abraded, or cut skin.
Special Precautions
Patient with asthma. Children. Pregnancy and lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders: Temporary skin reactions (e.g. rashes, redness, discomfort, irritation, burning sensation).
Patient Counseling Information
Avoid contact with eyes and sensitive skin areas.
Drug Interactions
May enhance the anticoagulant effects of warfarin. May increase the blood concentrations and risk of toxicity of methotrexate.
Action
Description: Diethylamine salicylate is a salicylic acid derivative topical analgesic. It has the anti-inflammatory effects of salicylates and may be used as a counterirritant.
Pharmacokinetics:
Absorption: Absorbed through the skin (small amounts as salicylic acid).
Excretion: Via urine.
